Bio

Julia Creuheras (1995) is a Barcelona-based artist working across kinetic sculptures which allude us to nostalgic and dusty relics that treasure uncertainty. Despite the fact that she shapes heavy materials such as metal or wood, her pieces are subtle and fragile; almost ethereal.
Originally, the machines she made started as a way for her to embody basic concepts of Quantumn Mechanics. Through them, she aimed to dismantle the agents of production of knowledge that entangle us with the nature of reality to draw closer to a concept of truth. Similarly to how puppets are pulled by visible strings, the visible mechanisms in her pieces functioned as active dismantlers of the forces that move the world of the mundane and the ordinary. This body of work, which was heavily marked by a certain obsession for answering questions about the texture of reality, has gradually mutated into a current body of work which is more focused on the question per se or, perhaps, in what motivates the question itself.
Unresolved questions host gaps for oneiric realities and faith to grow. Her sculptures nowadays emerge from this gap between the question and the answer, from her very own shelter of fantasy. In a more tangible way, her work is not moved anymore by visible motors but by magnets and hidden mechanisms; shifting from revealing to suggesting. The mentioned movement manages to wreath time into a circular shape by utter repetition.
Her pieces act as a multi-sided prism that examine the contemporary vessels of technology and information. In this uncertain era, when political dystopias feed our hunger for grasping images of truth, she embodies this incertitude by inhabiting the questioning through her pieces — uninterested in satiating the doubt. Because if there is not any right answer, the possibilities are infinite.
